Kathlyn was born and raised in the St. Louis, Missouri area. She also resided in Houston, Texas where she discovered her interest in glass. She has worked in numerous mediums throughout her life. Her artistic interests began with oil painting for interior designers. Kathlyn then learned the techniques of glass etching and stained glass. Because of her facination with the beauty, depth and color capabilities of glass, she also learned the art of glass fusion. Fused glass provides the beauty, detail and uniqueness for which she strives. She also incorporates sandblasting into the fusion process, which provides endless possibilities for further creativity. Kathlyn currently specializes in distinctive art glass candle boxes and stained glass windows. She constructs her art using a palette of bevels, art glass, agate, glass jewels and anything that can be foiled and soldered. Original designs incorporate the art deco, art nouveau, modern and mission styles into works of art. Glass also has a complimentary relationship with light and a flickering candle provides the spectacular illumination of her glass candle boxes. She has shared her artistic and technical expertise having taught arts and crafts, and, most recently, glass fusion for the Rockwood School District. Bluestem Gallery in Columbia, Missouri and The Painted Daisy in Eureka, Missouri currently represent Kathlyn's artwork. Silica Gems
