Statement of Purpose

The Missouri Artisans Association d.b.a. The Best of Missouri Hands was founded in 1989 as a nonprofit corporation "dedicated to the development and recognition of Missouri's arts and artisans through education, interaction, and encouragement."

Our Mission

A primary goal of MAA d.b.a. Best of Missouri Hands is to advance the arts in Missouri by:

Educating the public about Missouri's arts and crafts
Educating its members and the community at large through an annual conference, a newsletter, a web site, and other interactive communications
Providing technical assistance and mentoring for artistic development
Offering networking opportunities regionally and nationally
Rewarding excellence through its jury process
Preserving cultural heritage through public education, display and other projects

Missouri Artisans Association, better known as Best of Missouri Hands, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization representing artisans from throughout the state of Missouri. Missouri Artisans Association sent two working professional artists to our school. These artists shared their knowledge and experience with our elementary, middle school, and high school student body. This program allowed our students exposure to new art forms and the program was very successful in engaging students and widening their understanding of the visual arts.

Missouri Artisans Association provided two visiting artists to our school. They were both wonderful artists and they gave exciting presentations about their artwork. The students were inspried by the artists' work and presentations and they were able to incorporate some of these new ideas into their own artworks. This kind of collaborations is valuable and can only improve student learning while, at the same time, help continue the advancement of the fine arts and culture of Missouri.
