Rita's eyes and soul were opened to spinning…

Rita Williams has been part of the Fiber Art Community since 1976. She really wanted to be a potter, ordered a potters wheel, which never came and became a weaver, spinner and whatever else went with being a Fiber Art person and never regretted it. She was a member of the Mid-American Arts and Craft Guild, Silver Dollar City Guild, and did other art shows on her own. While attending John Campbell School in Brasstown, NC her eyes and soul were opened up to spinning and natural dyes, and the field of teaching. She taught in the Silver Dollar Crafts College classes on weaving, knitting and crochet plus teaching in her her studio in the woods, south of Lampe, MO where there are weeds and molds, and many other types of natural dyes available for dye classes.

A workshop on needle felting intrigued her so much that she now also creates felted little people. She demonstrated weaving and spinning at Silver Dollar City in the early nineties where she wove rag rugs, dyed with natural dyes for a historic house, 1850s at Carthedge, MO Fern Devlon of NYC hired her to weave chenille scarves and for three years she did this while still working at Silver Dollar City.

She has a studio in the woods and enjoys all the fiber arts and teaches classes in weaving, spinning, knitting, crochet, needle felting and natural dyes available within walking distance of her studio.
