Jerry Van Leer - Van Leer Illustrated, Inc. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. Seems like I've always had something on my drawing table, either for myself or someone else. I never had any formal training. I think it's something I picked up from watching other members of my family draw when I was very young. My parents would always give me Norman Rockwell books for Christmas and I'd spend the entire following year trying to recreate his paintings in pencil. I really admired his attention to detail and his ability to create something that felt so real. I get my technique directly from Rockwell. Through the use of many pencils I try to create that feeling of something real. Each pencil has its own hardness and characteristics that I try to layer together to create a texture...something you can feel just by looking at the drawing. It's much more than just recreating a photo...it's about being able to know what something feels like without being there. In 2002 I decided to start Van Leer Illustrated, Inc. My goal is to sell limited edition prints created from my original drawings. I also take commissioned projects, which is one of my favorite things to do. I've had many businesses through the years...now it's time to do something I really enjoy! Van Leer Illustrated,
