Silver Wings - Jim & Cheryl Jones - Unique metal sculptures

Silver Wings was established in 1995 as a part time business pursuit for Jimmy & Cheryl Jones. At that time, he was a production supervisor and she was a high school teacher. Both were at a point where they wanted to make some life changes and explore new opportunities.

Although the majority of their work is now fashioned from recycled copper, various other metals such as brass, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and aluminum are also used. Cheryl & Jim collaborate on designs, however, most of the actual metal fabrication is done by Jimmy He uses techniques such as plasma cutting, hand cutting, brazing, stick welding, MIG & TIG welding, forging, wire work, bending, texture grinding, and repousse. Most of their artwork is also embellished with blown glass, slag glass, marbles, natural stone, or driftwood. Before pieces are given a protective waterproof coating, they are often colored with torch heat or with special patinas developed by the couple.

Their studio is located at their home in Springfield, Missouri, where they produce more than 70 original designs as well as custom fabrications. Among their most popular items are traditional & contemporary wind directionals, hand formed bird baths, ornate trellises, water fountains, spider webs, gates, wall hangings, mobiles, celestial pieces, lotus and dragonflies, fish, light fixtures, and large kinetic wind sculptures. Prices range from $25 to $600 and above.

Jimmy and Cheryl now participate in 25 to 30 yearly art and fine craft shows around the country. Jimmy has demonstrated his skills at Silver Dollar City's National Festival of Craftsmen for two years and is a juried artist member for the Best of Missouri Hands. As members of this organization, Silver Wings received recognition from the Missouri Governor's office for metal dragonfly ornaments that were used on the 2002 Christmas tree at the Governor's mansion. In addition to other awards won at shows, the couple and their artwork were showcased in a feature article of the October 2001 issue of St. Louis Homes & Lifestyles magazine.
