Rebecca began working with gold, silver and pewter while still in high school. Following college she moved to the Boston area where she worked for a jeweler, a silversmith and a stained glass studio. Three years after studying pewtersmithing in Canada, she returned to her home in northern Ohio an din the fall of September 1975, opened a small shop in Bath, Ohio. During her first twenty years as a pewtersmith, Rebecca focused primarily on designs with traditional themes, but in 1995 began producing completely new and original works. It was at this time, her art became widely noticed and enthusiastically collected. Rebecca creates functional art using unleaded pewter. Considering the softness of the material, its sheen and smoothness, she experimented with surface texture by acid etching and engraving; added color by using gem stones and foil and complimented its metallic nature with wood, bone, glass, and cloth. Her inspiration comes from nature, architecture, ancient art, patterns in music and symbolism in religion. Rebecca believes pewter is an underutilized alloy. Characteristically pewter is soft and dull like the ugly duckling, but when molded, spun, hammered and polished, becomes the beautiful swan.
