Hue Parneli has been creating stoneware and porcelain works for more than 40 years. During the 1970’s he had the opportunity to work with a Korean who was a 10th generation village potter. As a result, Hue was exposed to the simplicity of producing pieces that “spoke” about the elements of water, earth and fire. His functional and altered pieces are an extension of the firing process exhibiting a “mating” of brushing and trailing slips and engobes to create transformed surfaces. Hue’s home for his pieces is located at the Fresh Gallery, sponsored by the Springfield Regional Arts Council. He has taught art for many years both as a professional teacher and as a practicing ceramic artist. Currently, he and his wife, Maria, are building an art school’ that will provide studio artists a place to collaborate about the creative process. Further, his personal work focuses on completing special commissioned pieces, gallery exhibitions and craft shows.
