My work bears shadows of my past. Experiences formed in my homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosanska Gradiska), a country that for years has been plagued by destruction and war, triggered the desire to create and give shape to wonders of nature. My fascination with trees in particular became the overriding inspiration and key component in my visual vocabulary. My artwork is fashioned from copper and aluminum wire. I devote much attention to creating sensual, delicate, yet strong and dynamic curves that mirror natures bountiful manifestations. The trees then extend into elaborately twisted roots, which reach beneath the earth from which the metal that they are made of originates. The man-created trees form a perfect antithesis to the rocks which nature has shaped during its countless and merciless cycles. My creations then reach their final stage when a coat of polyurethane super high gloss is applied, evoking the clearness of water bouncing off the rocks below. The changing light also becomes a devoted companion, constantly bringing trees into motion, creating shadows, and enhancing form and color. In my view, my sculptures are the ideal medium for human expression. By reflecting natures and even ones calm as well as roused moods, they usher in the moments of introspection that I hope will leave the lasting impact on the spectator. H.
