John Preus, potter

John Preus
Artist Statement

I have been a studio potter since 1974, and I delight in making pots for daily use. Much of my work is thrown, altered, and then assembled with handbuilt additions. I often work in a series, with form being my central interest. I am intrigued by the interplay of changing form, proportion, and volume within the framework of the functional pot. Forms are generally simple, but often with active surface. Fire, glazes, and chance continue to offer me unending challenges and surprises. I look forward to the unexpected in my pots.
I maintain Manitou Studio in Rocheport, MO. and teach art at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO.
