I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Graphic Design from Southwest Missouri State University in 1987 and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University in 1996. I lived with my family for three years on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Tuba City, Arizona. During that time, I spent as much time as possible exploring the Southwest and learning about the Native American culture and their art. After returning to St. Louis, I took a position as a high school art teacher, teaching painting, drawing and jewelry classes to 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. It was during this time that I discovered Precious Metal Clay and after only one class, I was hooked. I have always loved working with clay and enjoy teaching it to my students. After teaching a jewelry class for four years, Precious Metal Clay was the perfect blend of the two mediums. I love the feel of the clay while I am working with it and am amazed with the process of starting with clay and ending with metal. The possibilities are endless with Precious Metal Clay and I am amazed and thrilled every time I complete a piece. Maggie Ahern
