Lynn Diel Lynns early years were spent in a small river town in Missouri where there were hills and trails to explore which let his imagination run wild. While working fulltime, he attended the University of Missouri and completed an undergraduate and then master degrees in Technology and Education. The experience he gained from juggling work, schooling and family taught him about self-discipline, communications and concentration to details, experience the he brings as a contributing member to The Carving Magazine by providing articles and projects for woodcarvers. Lynn has not had formal artistic training and began carving in 1997. Since then, he has taught himself about art and sculpture from books, magazines, films, museums, art galleries and studying with other artists. With his devotion to detail, and his love for the west it will come as no surprise that among his favorite artists are James Bama and David McGary as well as the works of Edwards Curtis, Fredrick Remington and George Catlin. While these pursuits helped to release the artistic spirit , he believes that most of what he has learned about art and sculpting came from God given talents within. Capturing the rugged people of the west in wood is Lynns first love and has a passion for depicting faces. However, However, when the days begin to grow shorter and colder, Lynn finds it hard not to begin carving Santas in anticipation for the season Lynn E. Diel
