I bought my first 35mm camera in 1970. Shortly after that I enrolled at Florissant Valley to study art. I found the photography classes to very enjoyable. We studied composition and using photography to creatively express ourselves. At that time we were only working in black and white. In 1972 I participated in my first show with 10 other students.

For a number of reasons I did not pursue a career as a photographer, even though I seriously considered it. I did read about, study and continue to take photos throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. In the late 80s I went on some trips to California and the Southwest United States where I saw many of the sights that early photographers made famous. This inspired me to increase my photography activities. In 1999 I returned to Florissant Valley at night and completed an Associates Degree in Photography in June 2006.

My work explores the relationship of forms, textures and color in the everyday world. I use these to create abstract geometrical abstract images. The subjects of my work include: old and new commercial, office and industrial buildings, historical buildings and sites, other man made structures and natural scenes. The majority of my subjects are places and objects that most people pass everyday without giving them a second thought. I move in close and try to extract an interesting aspect of the subject that you would not notice unless you stopped and studied the subject. While the images are made up of recognizable elements (bricks, corrugate metal, wood, concrete, doors...) the whole the image becomes abstract.

I capture my images on film and scan them into the computer. I adjust the images to express my vision and feeling of the subject.

I am an active member of Art St. Louis, St. Louis Artist’s Guild, Art Dimensions and the Foundry Art Centre. Since early 2001 I have been in 75 juried-shows, exhibits or art fairs in Missouri.
