My work deals with the transfer of energy into a material using a strong sense of gesture and emotion. Abstract expression and non-objective subjects are primary themes. Nature is suggested by organic forms and flowing lines which create movement that is often found in nature.
Working from my present state of mind allows for more freedom and spontaneity to enter into my work. Incorporating my own personal aesthetic and intuition adds to this freedom during the creative process. The viewer’s interpretation of my art is based on their own personal experiences in life. I hope to conjure up memories and an emotional response that is pleasant and full of life and positive energy.
I graduated from Smith Cotton in 2007 in my hometown of Sedalia I've been doing ceramics consistently since 2004. I've been blowing glass every chance I get since 2007 and attended Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood Washington for two intensive summer sessions in 2009. I also took a one week glass intensive in Arkansas with Ed Pennebaker in June 2010.
After attending Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville from Fall 2007 through Fall 2009, I transferred back to State Fair Community College in Spring 2010 to seek out instruction from previous art professors Don Luper and Paul Allen. I'll be finishing my education at Missouri State University working on my B.F.A. in Ceramics, along with my K-12 Art Education Degree.
