I am a self taught ceramic artist making functional pottery. Books, magazines, internet sites, workshops, and other potter friends have been my teachers for the past seven years. My style continues to change and develop as I constantly experiment and learn from working with commercially made stoneware and local natural clays that I dig and use. I lean towards imperfect organic, simple forms and designs with our vineyard and the rural setting around my studio providing my inspiration. I strive to preserve a bit of nature, a certain texture that has to be touched or imprint that catches my eye in my creations. My professional training is in Occupational Therapy however, clay has become my therapy. When I am in the studio working with clay, (radio on and a thermos of hot tea), I find a release for my negative, pent-up energy; a renewal of my creative energy; and the opportunity to lose myself in time; where my spirit is at peace with the world around me. My soul and mind get recharged which enables me to fulfill my other roles in life. I am a founding member of the River's Edge Pottery Guild and the Bonney Bank Artisan Guild in Southeast Missouri. One of our goals in both guilds is to foster and network with other local "up and coming" artists. We provide venues several times a year to show, sale, and demonstrate our fine crafts at local fine art and crafts shows, wineries, and galleries. The friends I have made and information and experiences shared from my involvement in these two groups have been a blessing in my life. My goal for the future is to continue my work and play in clay and to stay active in the local art community because there is still so much to learn and do. J Brick Pottery at Sunset Ridge
