Good Shepherd pottery overlooks a valley speckled with sheep, 6 miles east of Marshfield, MO. Completion of the large studio is a dream come true for owner Desiree Young who hopes to teach pottery and continue to produce functional and sculptural works for area art and home stores. Desiree is a Registered nurse who works in cardiac education and comes from a family of artists. At age thirty she began to delve into art as a second career, working for a major doll company designing costumes and producing patterns. Her designs would be published monthly and soon she wanted to design dolls. Working in clay became a passion and soon the only medium receiving attention. Many of her pieces still remember her textile history and incorporate lace, buttons and fabric. "Many people don't understand how a nurse can also be an artist", states Desiree. Pottery uses both the right and left brain. I love the technical side of glaze formulation and firing as well as the aesthetic side of creating pieces that reflect peace and compassion. Just as nursing uses technology to heal and compassion to touch lives. Desiree is married to Mark Young and they have two children, Jacob and Ashley. They will have been married 22 years this summer and live life to its fullest! Desiree Young Home | Artisans | Membership | News | Contact | Featured Craftsman | Mission | Links | Members Only |
