I retired in 2002 after teaching art in the Misouri schools for 29½ years. I started my teaching career in Kansas City, where I taught junior high students at Ervin Junior High School for two years. I then taught in Aurora, Missouri for one year, again in the junior high school. I finished the rest of my career in Waynesville, Missouri, where I taught high school students for eight years. I took one year off t have my second child, and upon my return was assigned to East Elementary School (the high school position was not open at that time.) I taught K-5th grades for eighteen years at East School. It was a "memorable" transistion from junior high and high school students to the elementary students. The first year was a learning experience as I learned to gear down to the cpabilities of younger childre. As I progressed over the next 17 years, I discovered that elementary children can do about anything you ask them to artistically. We held an art show every Spring and parents were always amazed at the variety and quality of the student work…right down to Kindergarteners! A clay necklace project I did with Kindergarteners was featured on the cover of "School Arts" magazine along with the article I had submitted describing the technique. We had a LOT of fun.

I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Waynesville when I married my husband, David. We have two grown boys, Matthew 27 and Ian 22. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Comprehensive Art Education fro Southwest Missouri State College in 1971. I earned my Master's in Education Degree from Drury College in 1996.

I am a member of the American Gourd Society and secretary for the upcoming year of the ShowMe Gourd Society. I became interested in gourd art about 10 years ago after seeing a poster displaying the gourd work of Robert Rivera. I started with mainly Native American motifs using Robert Rivera's work as inspiration. Over the years, I have changed styles many times as I try new techniques and explore new subject matter. Currently, most of my work features all or some of these methods: woodburning details, cut outs, sculptural surface cuts, the use of colored pencils, acrylic paint, leather dyes or cream shoe polish used for color.
