Jewelry & Drawing
Color
Color is the driving force behind my work.
Trained as a serigrapher, I was used to laying down flat, clear, bright
color. When I made the transition into metalsmithing, I first used
stones to impart the color. But after discovering epoxy resin and
its array of colors, I was hooked.
Design
Clear simple shapes interacting with others.
Balance, shape, color, and line play together to form a cohesive design.
This is my motivating force. As an illustrator, used to working in
two dimensions, I find it challenging to translate my ideas into three
dimensions. Jewelry, because of its small, intimate scale, is a great
vehicle for me to do this.
Technique
My jewelry is fabricated from flat sheets
of metal and round wires that have been cut, formed, folded, textured,
and then soldered together. When the piece of jewelry is complete
then I begin the coloring process using dyed epoxy resin. I mix the
colored resin with the hardener and apply it with an airbrush. After
it dries, the surface has a permanent jewel-like finish.
One of a kind
Working with epoxy and silver together
is exciting and unique for me. My jewelry has a sparkling, colorful,
and fun appearance that I believe is truly different.
Fun
My work is fun, colorful, and playful, taking
poetic license with nature. I enjoy making my art and I hope that
it shows.
