To hold a piece of wood and feel the spirit of the wood from deep within waiting to get out through my carving tools, to hold a piece of paper and spread watercolors on it letting them react and interact to produce a visually beautiful piece, to hold a lump of clay that I shape with my own hands into a piece of art and then fire to a red hot object of lasting beauty is very exciting and satisfying to me. I like the vivid spontaneous interaction of watercolor, the emergence of something beautiful from a block of wood, and the vivid spontaneous effect from Raku firing.

My education comes through the workshops of Ringling School of Art and course work at Cedar Valley College and Southeast Missouri State University. I have studied with Master Bavarian Woodcarver Ludwig Kieninger, with watercolorist Lynn McLain, Master Potter Randy Brodnax, and pueblo potter Nora Naranjo-Morse, "Mud Woman." I have attended workshops with numerous nationally known watercolor artists, woodcarvers and potters.

Although formal training provides depth and perfection of technique, the natural world is the continual source of my inspiration. The natural and spontaneous action of watercolor, woodcarving, and Raku firing done in the same fashion as my Indian ancestors provides me the inspiration for my work. I can be found in my DreamCatcher Studio (Cape Girardeau, Missouri) where my art of the present replays the stories and traditions of the past.
