Dogwood Spring Studio - Erin VanOmmen

Welcome to Dogwood Spring Gallery. My name is Erin Van Ommen. I've enjoyed nature and drawing/painting all my life, and my artwork focuses on wildlife and birds in particular. My husband, Ken, and I have five children, and in and around raising a family and tending to life in general, I've pursued my art in various mediums, doing sketches and drawings, small paintings, handmade greeting cards and calligraphy. I grew up in Iowa, and our family now lives near Springfield, Missouri. Over the years I've done several commissioned works for individuals, and I've had some of my original watercolors and prints displayed at Destination 33, a gallery in Adel, IA, since April 2004. This past May I was at that gallery for a two-day show of my paintings of migratory songbirds. My most recent commissions include a series of cattle scenes (done in acrylics) on circular saw blades for the American Royal Livestock Show in Kansas City, 2004 and 2005; and two 30" x 40" paintings for the waiting room wall of Countryside Animal Hospital, Clearwater, Florida, in July of 2005. I was also asked to do on-site watercolor paintings of the birds at the new aviary in Branson West, Wings of the World, so I worked there several days a week this past summer. Prints of my work are in the gift shop there.

There are many opportunities to observe nature's wonders no matter where you live, and here in the Ozarks I never tire of hiking through the woods, just enjoying the quietness and beauty and getting ideas for more paintings. Where I grew up there was a woods adjoining our property with a creek running through it, and some of my fondest childhood memories are of walks in those woods, each season having its own special allure: hunting for morel mushrooms after a spring rain, or pretending I was blazing a trail through the wilderness after a foot of snowfall in January. Now our family, amidst the busy-ness of life, enjoys taking time often to go camping, fishing, and hiking --and whenever I can I take a canvas and paintbrushes along. to

Enjoy!
