Media: Mixed Media Artwork: Handcut Glass Mosaics About the Artists Three decades of quilting and photography have provided Priscilla and Diana with invaluable experience in the field of design. Their experience in mosaics is self-taught but their love for the arts comes from deep within. They are Studio Juried members of the Best of Missouri Hands, members of SAMA (Society of American Mosaic Artists), and cochairmen for the ArtSmart 2004 Conference. They consider themselves emerging artists and have received the Award of Excellence at the 2003 An Art Affair, Westport Plaza. Both Diana and
Priscilla have an undying love for nature, which arises from their
mutual love of gardening. In whatever medium they chose, they wanted
to capture the beauty and dimension that nature holds. Glass became
the means by which they pursued this desire. Artists' Statement After many years of using the same forms of art communication we felt the need to express ourselves through another medium. Our mutual interest was in stained glass. After several years of working with this medium, the subtler qualities of the glass such as reflectance of light, texture and movement of color continued to fascinate us. It was these qualities that became so apparent in works of glass that are not transparent to light. Since piece quilting
is a great deal like mosaics in fabric it was a natural transition
to working with mosaics in glass. We rely heavily on photography of
nature for our inspiration, and believe that works of art should be
both functional and beautiful -a part of everyday life. Half of the
beauty involved in creating our works is seeing how a sheet of glass
can be transformed. One is never quite sure how the end product will
differ from the beginning, but we have yet to find disappointment
in what we've created. Crystal Pathways
