I’ve never been afraid to try a variety of mediums, although for many years my mediums of choice were oils and watercolors. Two-dimensionally speaking, I’m basically self-taught. So far, my paintings have been exhibited in seven states, been included in an internationally distributed calendar, was the design on the dust cover for a published book. I’ve written approximately 10,000 names in calligraphy. My paintings have been accepted into numerous juried exhibits including the Missouri 50 and the Missouri Watercolor Nationals, having received the Award of Achievement in 2003. However, that same year, I took a detour. I laid down my paint brushes and tried my hand at clay. It has proved to be an immensely enjoyable medium, capable of withstanding the whims of an imagination, yet still holds the capabilities of being functional. One of my Cookie Plates won first place in Albuquerque’s Coyote Clay competition, with my pot being pictured in The Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated magazines. The same Cookie Plate will be on exhibit at the National Council for the Education of Ceramic Arts conference in Portland Oregon, March 2006. My work has also been awarded Best of Show in a juried event in Springfield. So, with all this, I think I made an excellent choice in switching gears and working with clay! My studio is located in a quiet, wooded area of the Ozarks, which is an excellent location to get in touch with and work with a product of the Earth.
