Fused Glass and Wire Jewelry "There is something mysterious about working with warm glass. You anticipate how the stacked layers might merge in a firing, and yet, somehow it always turns out differently. I love the discovery of opening a hot kiln to see how the tiny stacks of glass blend and recreate themselves into a single piece." The individually crafted items are made from compatible glasses, vintage glass, beads and wire. The glass jewelry is purposefully layered with dichroic glass and metal inclusions and is displayed at shows under a high powered magnifier to illustrate the depth and variety of color in each piece. Each glass cabachon sparkles with flashes of color and demands comment by onlookers. The depth of the layered glass is purposefully enhanced by simple sculpted wire designs and the final addition of a meticulously handcrafted chain. As a means to enhance the glass cabachons, I studied chaining at William Holland Lapidary School and found the endless variation on classic chains so compelling, that I now juggle creating fused glass pieces and chain maille in my home studio. I began marketing my jewelry at local art and craft festivals in 1996 and soon found a niche as demand for pendants/slides emerged. I found a source of good feedback and a positive response when I started consigning my jewelry to gift shops. My husband and I ran Manitou Gallery & Studio in California, MO from 2003 to 2006 where we sold my jewelry in addition to a wide variety of artwork and other jewelry from regional local artisans. I teach glass fusing classes in California, MO and Shannondale Craft Camp outside of Salem, MO. I am employed full time as a social worker and enjoy spending time with our daughter doing creative activities including making wire jewelry. Beyond Baubles
