For nearly 25 years, Rick Braun has focused his attention on collecting and utilizing salvaged natural materials that are the basis for the one-of-a-kind creations that have found Rick Braun with chainsaw new homes in both residential and commercial settings nationwide. Materials collected from construction sites, new roads, power line right-of-ways as well as ice storms, tornadoes, floods and other circumstances that provide Rick with materials that would normally be burned or discarded. From a dining table made from a 150 year old, 42 inch diameter salvaged log to a twisted, gnarly juniper fireplace mantle or a rock-embedded cedar root coffee or end table, cedar log beds and dressers, single or book-matched slab bar, counter tops, vanities, leather-shaded floor and table lamps, and a variety of natural architectural accents. Rick strives to find the right combination of raw materials to give each creation its own style and personality.

Rick has won many awards over the years for design and craftsmanship, from the best display seven times from the nationally renowned War Eagle Fair, to Master Craftsman Awards from Bass Pro Shops and Big Cedar Lodge and Silver Dollar City’s National Craft Festival.

Wood Merchant - Rick & Sue Braun Over the years the Wood Merchant business has evolved from building trailer loads of furniture and going on the road for art and craft shows to exhibiting in galleries or selling to wholesale buyers nationwide to try to make a living. Happily now, nearly all furnishings are custom orders. Rick smiles when he says to his wife, Sue, “I think we have been discovered!”

Rick would be the first one to say that, “I could not have done this by myself without the support and encouragement from many people; but especially and specifically my wife, Sue and son, Shawn Gates.” The Wood Merchant continues to provide for their clientele the one-of-a-kind natural furnishings that got them started nearly 25 years ago.
