The arts have always been a part of my life. As a child, I wanted to be an artist, but was also attracted to science. So I drew, played piano, studied and performed as a dancer, was a professional storyteller and got my first degree in environmental sciences. Growing up in Canada and spending a great deal of time playing and exploring in the outdoors ultimately led me to study ecology and teach outdoors in several environmental centers around the Midwest.
My paintings reflect my attraction to the individual, whether it be human, animal, plant, still life studies or inanimate objects. Through the generous use of layers, bright colors, and details, I try to show the viewer the unique qualities of the subject, often creating a “snapshot” in a story. My art has been described as fresh, cheerful and often whimsical. Viewers have the feeling of wanting to pull the object right off the page, it looks so real. Currently I exhibit at numerous art fairs around the Midwest. I have won awards at art shows and fairs, most recently, first place at the Mid-Missouri Fine Arts Society show “Inspired by Literature” and second place at the Washington Art Fair and Wine Fest.
Galleries that represent me include: Kunstlerhaus Art Gallery in Hermann, Front Street Artisans in New Haven and Toni’s Home Décor in Washington. Currently, my husband, Greg, a violinmaker and fiddler, and I live and work in our 100 year old farmhouse on 15 acres outside of New Haven, Missouri.
